Welcome to Positive Practice Living

Welcome to Positive Practice Living. This is my positive place to take a minute and breathe. I share my thoughts and experiences as I try to understand the world around me. I am a writer, a yogi, a mother, a wife and so much more. I believe in the power of love and I struggle constantly to balance doing too much and then doing too little. I write about all of these things. I do what I can to intentionally find a little bit of inspiration in the everyday.

From The Other Side of the World

Every year there is usually at least one really big hurricane. This year it is called Hurricane Florence, a category 4 due to hit the Southeast in the next day or so.

Ironically, during my visit to our family and friends on the East coast during the summer, I said, "I only hear about hurricanes and such if they are really bad and affecting life for you all." Well, that time has come.

The storm warning has been issued, Hurricane Florence is barreling its way to the Southeast. The entire coast of North and South Carolina is predicted to be hit--with some extensions north into Virginia and south in Georgia.

Public schools are already cancelled for the next three days in over 26 counties to be prepared shelters and use the buses for evacuation. A mandatory evaluation has been issued for much of the South Carolina Coast. Two major Interstates have become a one way highway to escape to safety.

It is a hard thing living so far away from family as they face a natural disaster like Hurricane Florence. Many of my family and friends live further inland, outside the mandatory evacuation boundaries, and chose to stay to weather the storm. My thoughts are with them as they get hit by a "life-threatening storm surge" (Weather Channel).

If you are in the path of this storm, even on the outskirts of it's predicted impact, it is vital to be prepared. Be sure to have non-perishable food on hand, at least three days of water, a first aid kit, a radio and backup lighting such as lanterns, flashlights or use of a generator. Prepare your property by bringing in all loose furniture, toys, etc and if possible board up your windows.

To all facing this "Storm of a Lifetime," be safe and smart. There are lots of positive thoughts coming from what feels like the other side of the world.
