April Goals 2018



I started this Goals series because I needed a way to plan out my intentions and then be able to follow up with how I did. This also allows me to adjust and move forward.

I believe in the power of setting intentions and also the ability to adjust those intentions within any given time frame. It is amazing how much can change in a month. When I am trying to build habits, that is about the amount of time it takes to make it happen and actually stick.

I encourage this exercise because it will help you plan out your time and priorities as you go through the daily grind of every month. It has helped me.

March 2018 Review

1. Write March Goals for the Month and Log Process

I did this with my post last month: March Goals 2018. This was really just to get the habit going. The logging process has also worked out nicely. I use a private blogger account for my daily journaling and two apps on my phone for other progress updates.


I use Journal It to keep up with progress on my novel, my blog and my homeschooling research. I also use it as a gratitude journal, affirmations lists and a quote log. It has been a great addition to my productivity.

2. Get through four chapters on my novel

I started last month working on Chapter 8. It took me an extra week, but I am on chapter 12 now, so that is still good progress.

3. Go to my yoga studio 8 times

I did well in this area. I went to my normal studio 8 times and I tried a new studio as well. I enjoyed the quieter, more meditative flow of the new studio. However, I also enjoy the energy and workout of my usual studio. I was excited to try something new and reach my goal of being active in yoga.



4. Make an effort to have more family time

This spring is bringing lots of transitions for our family. We have done a good job this month about spending time together and being supportive of each other.

5. Figure out my goals for my blog.

Honestly, this is the one that hasn't gone as well. I haven't been writing on my blog much at all the past couple of weeks. I'm not really sure why, I suppose I just don't have much to say. There's also lots going on in life right now as we set ourselves up to move across town over the next month.

I am setting a posting schedule so I have two original posts and then my Wordless Wednesday meme. I really enjoy networking pictures on Wednesday, so I am keeping that routine. Then I will additionally post on Mondays and Fridays. At least that is the plan.

March went pretty well by all measures. I think this idea of setting goals just might work. It is a very personal thing, but I share it because the act of making goals and sharing them holds me accountable to myself. I also hope that this will inspire you to be intentional with your life. Several goal making posts have inspired me to try it myself. So here we are.

April 2018 Goals

I realize that the month is already half over, but it is still important for me to sit down and make some plans. On April 15 we will have the keys to a new apartment across town. I'm so excited for this move, but it is always a process. Thankfully, we have a month and a half to get everything sorted out.

1. Go to yoga 8 times

This might just be a constant goal. If I go to my studio 8 times, the membership I have will pay for itself. Besides, doing yoga twice a week is a good balance of time and energy. I am always so much more capable of handling situations when I go to yoga often. That is my goal. It should be interesting this month with Spring Break happening in the middle.



2. Meditate Almost Everyday

I do not like the idea of daily tasks. I tend to journal, meditate, and do yoga at home everyday, but I don't like the stress it brings if I miss it for any reason. So I say "almost" everyday.

I'm finding a great sense of peace and purpose in my meditation. I like the feeling of calm and clarity that comes when I meditate regularly. It is slowly becoming a natural part of my day and I'm really enjoying the strength is brings to my mind because I can handle things without the stress and anxiety that has been with me most of my life.



3. Write new things

This includes blog posts, poetry and stories. I wonder if the reason I have had nothing to say to publish on my blog is because I haven't been writing out ideas lately. I've been editing my novel, but that is different from writing. I need to figure out what I have to say again, it is a process that I want to put intentionally in front of me.


Also, I want to edit at least two more chapters this month. I'm giving myself a low amount so I can actually get it done with everything else going on with the move and such. I am hoping to make my novel a bigger priority in upcoming months.

4. Move Necessities and Start sorting our things

As I mentioned before, we are moving starting next week. We have until the end of May to be completely finished, so I want to take the time and really go through our stuff. After we get the necessities moved over, it will be easier to see what is left to sort through.

I've been working on being more minimalist in these past couple of years. We moved way too much from our house in South Carolina when we moved to Seattle four years ago. We moved from a small apartment where we had gotten rid of many things to a big house again where it didn't really matter if we kept it or tossed it. It is harder when there is no reason to part with it. Now however, we are moving into a smaller space again and letting go of the excess will really help us out in the long run.

Even more than just being in a smaller space (which we are happy about), it is about removing the physical clutter to have more peace of mind. When we aren't tripping over things and wondering what to do with things, I find I have more clarity and find balance easier.

5. Read books so I can return them 

I borrowed several books from friends and my mom over the last few years. As we look to move, I find I no longer want to have the extra things. However, I still want to read them. So my goal is to read through as many books as I can in the time I have before we move so I can return the books. It will be about 8 books or so, thankfully, I'm a fairly fast reader. I don't mind making reading a priority. It is one of my favorite things.


April has been a roller coaster so far. Now we are faced with the logistics of moving. I like that a lot better than figuring out where we are going to move. That part is out of the way as of this past Monday and it is a weight off my shoulders. I am very excited about this new place and I think we will have a great time living there.

Though it is still very wet and rainy here, at least the temperatures are slowly increasing. I don't mind the rain so much when I am not freezing. With spring also brings planting season, an activity the entire family enjoys. I am looking forward to our move and all of the transitions we are experiencing. It will be a good month.

  1. Full of admiration if you can plan like that, I'm more suck it and see. Only blogs I seem to try to plan is the Church Explorer for Sunday then Our World Tuesday, WW and Skywatch Friday. I have another blog but that is random. I should try and plan things out more, wontw be long before I retire

  2. I find using the notes that come with devices and my laptop along with the calendar are invaluable and acts like goals for the week or day. I feel great with I get to delete or grey out an accomplished goal and a bit guilty but not too bad when I have to move one. All in all I find this is great for getting things done and making me feel as if I have more value than I sometimes give myself credit for.

    1. I love to write out lists! But I find I never really go back to check them off. I'm trying to write little updates about things I have done so I can look back and see that I am really making progress. It's working for now. I feel like I'm always trying out some sort of new note program or method of keeping track of everything. You do have lots of value! Never forget that.
