New Day, New Way

I sometimes wonder if I put too much emphasis on transitional events like Winter Solstice and New Years. I mean, today I wake and don’t feel any different. Nonetheless, I believe that by being intentional with who I am and what I want, I can manifest a life that I enjoy living.

Today is my first day back to reality after holiday vacation. I have my intentions set for the new year, but it really comes down to what I do now. As I get back into routine, I have to make the choices that lead me in the direction my intentions.

Transitional events, like the start of a new year, remind me to pause and make sure my choices are currently leading me where I want to go. If I have made choices that do not serve my intention, there is no reason to feel bad about them, I just walked a little off my path. I can redirect my steps and realign myself so that my choices allow the opportunity for contentment, joy and happiness.

The path I choose is decided every day by these subtle choices I make. One quote by John C. Maxwell, has really motivated me over the past year, “You'll never change your life until you change something you do daily. The secret of your success is found in your daily routine.”

I’ve discovered the benefit of good habits and how to manage them to increase productivity, creativity and overall happiness. Even when things begin to go wrong, I am able to stop and analyze the situation. By taking time to respond to a situation instead of react, I can decide how to endure or change course. Either way, I design a path through or around the problem that is in line with my intention.

There can be imbalance caused by temporary or situational circumstances that are completely out of our control. However, by coming back to the balance, the home base of our self, we can reset and get what we need from our environment and our habits right now.

All aspects of our lives have balance to them. We need little reminders to make sure that balance isn’t leaning one way or the other. When we reach extremes in any format, we begin to notice difference in the way we feel, move and respond to others. Often a harshness will overcome me and I have to pause and contemplate where the aggression came from. Most of the time it is from some form of imbalance.

I do put a lot of emphasis on transitional events like New Years, but that process serves me and how I manage balance in my own life. I need these reminders to really look at the choices I make and decide if I want to continue in a particular course or change it.

However, it doesn't have to be during a transitional holiday to renew your intentions. Any time, any day, can lead to a new way. If what you are doing isn't working, try a new choice. It doesn’t matter what I have done up until this point, today is a new day to make a choice that leads me toward what I want my life to be like.

I hope you can find some comfort in finding balance. I takes time to change, but the results are worth it.
